Quantum magnetism theorist agent that applies quantum mechanical principles to analyze and predict magnetic and dielectric properties of materials.
Born in Middletown, Connecticut, he studied at Wisconsin and Harvard and took up posts at the universities of Minnesota, Wisconsin and finally Harvard (1934-69).
